From Shanghai Pudong I boarded flight Delta DL185 and headed straight to Los Angeles. I sat in Delta One and have many fond memories of the city of Los Angeles. The previous year, I had the opportunity to drive the famous Route 66, which starts in Chicago and ends in Los Angeles. I spent only two days in the city, but it was evident that the city won my heart. Beverly Wilshire, a Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles About the Hotel For most people Pretty Woman is the movie that made Julia Roberts a star, and it is filmed at Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel which is one of the most popular film locations in Los Angeles. After a 10 hour flight, this was the type of hotel I felt I could go to my room and sleep. Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills ¥3127 It took about 40 minutes to arrive at the hotel from the airport. Even before entering the hotel, I could see the enormous BW logo. First impressions do matter, and I felt like I was walking into a movie set. The hotel opened in 1928 and has a lot of history. It is located very close to Rodeo Drive and all of the shopping, dining and luxury boutiques. The hotel is divided into 2 wings, the 10 story Wilshire Wing which faces the intersection of Wilshire Blvd and Rodeo Drive and is surrounded by upscale dining and shopping, and the 14 story Beverly Wing in which I stayed on this trip. In the end, a hotel is judged not only on its interiors but also its service. There were chocolates and hot teas prepared, and the room had already been serviced when I opened the door. The service was quite welcoming, and it was efficient without being overly formal. \N\NThe long haul flight was exhausting and stepping into a hotel room was luxurious. This place was as close to home as it gets. After a hot shower I went looking for food. \N\NHotel Dining \N\NTHE Blvd Restaurant \N\NEven if they are not eating or staying at the hotel, a lot of people visiting Beverly Hills stop at THE Blvd to take a picture at the entrance. That is the draw of a true landmark. The night I got here, the US presidential election was taking place and nearly the whole restaurant was turning to the big screen to check the results. California was predicted to vote for Hillary Clinton, and a lot of people were disappointed as the outcome was contrary to their assumptions. \N\NPortions are large and the menu is extensive. The Blvd is very European and gives a great deal of Beverly Hills movie set energy. I recommend a fruit-forward red wine from California to start your meal. \N\NBedding \N\NIn my opinion, the first measure of a good hotel is how well the guests are able to sleep. No amount of design, art, or extravagance can compensate for a bad bed. \N\NI have always been pleased with the bedding at Four Seasons. Years ago, the brand was the first hotel group to provide customers with sleep research and a service to replace the mattress toppers. The hotel’s pillows, topped by ultra soft ones, and their sheets made me sleep clear through to morning.

In the morning I located a table by the window to have my breakfast. They offered a choice of breakfast, from the entrance. There was a supply of bread and newspapers, and then breakfast was offered on an order basis, ultra la of plenty. The Beverly Wilshire is no stranger to celebrity sightings. Justin Bieber was rumored to be a habitual breakfast attendee.

One simply must have the black truffle eggs. I took all of them. If you don’t want to stay at the hotel, the hotel’s charm and popularity with Hollywood actors is great enough to fill an entire book. It was also said that John Lennon, like Elvis Presley, was fond of staying here, and so he is said to have lived at the hotel for several months. Elton John was another regular visitor. The stories do not stop.

In 1998, the hotel hosted the “Princess Ball” for Titanic. The “Heart of the Ocean” was said to be worth over US$2.5 million, and the hotel is reported to have hosted Oscar celebration parties in the years to come, and a Sotheby’s auction was held on the property. The hotel also hosted the after parties of the Oscars.

SPA

Managing Jet Lag is a challenge for intercontinental travel. To help me adjust, I thought a swim, 30 minutes of cardio, or a spa appointment would help.

Prior to arriving, I made an appointment for the Travel Recovery Treatment by ELEMIS which is supposed to be good for jet lag.

Hotel spa treatment

The treatment is 90 minutes: it starts with a full-body detox ritual, then there is a mud detox wrap, then the massage, and finally a facial. The entire experience was extremely relaxing. It is also said that the spa catered to a lot of Hollywood clientele. Before you leave, be sure to check out the stone-therapy steam sauna.

While waiting for the elevator, you may see an antique mailbox. There are small things about this historic hotel that go above and beyond. On the 3rd floor stairs, there is a letter chute to your floor to send your letter down to the lobby mailbox. We receive emails saying “I love you,” but we have forgotten the art of writing to our loved ones.

Before the trip, I was told about a woman whose boyfriend had written her over a dozen letters before she left and instructed her to open one each day. That kind of joy, the anticipation of something heartfelt, is not common. I wondered whether she used that old mail slot to send a letter in reply.

Four Seasons rooms are always cozy and comfortable. They are decorated elegantly without being gaudy, and every element is tailored to the architecture. The large arched windows, tall ceilings, and abundance of natural light create an atmosphere of tranquility. The design maximizes the natural lighting and creates an atmosphere that feels less like a layover and more like staying in your home.\t

That’s undoubtedly the end goal, a hotel won’t be offering you a place to stay, but providing you with a sense of familiarity.

“CUT Restaurant”

Most Beverly Hills locals will recommend CUT at Beverly Wilshire when asked about the best steak in the area.

Celebrities like Calvin Harris and Taylor Swift, have been spotted leaving this steakhouse together, and they are certainly not the only famous faces to dine at what is arguably the best restaurant in LA.

Although you may have dined at Spago, you will understand why this Michelin star restaurant is renowned for its consistency.

CUT at Beverly Wilshire

With a menu designed by chef Wolfgang Puck and an interior by architect Richard Meier, CUT is one of the most in demand dining experiences in Los Angeles. It lives up to its reputation as one of the top three steakhouses in the country.

The appetizers may be inviting, but leave space for the main course.

Both the domestic and Wagyu beef were exceptional. Tender and utterly melt-in-your-mouth.

Our journeys should be boundless. It is meaningful to seek life’s pleasures and explore the unknown.

While in Los Angeles, you should experience this hotel that has housed countless Hollywood legends.
